What does that mean?

I was praying before going to bed... I asked God where I'm supposed to go from here, then I started thinking of all my friends - how they have moved on or started something significant with their lives.
I wondered why I was still in the same place I've been for so long.

I imagined myself standing there on this street, directing people to wherever it was they wanted to go... then those words came into my head.

I ran a keyword search on BibleGateway.com and only one verse in an English translation included the word "Guidepost".

Jeremiah 31:21

It didn't say too much so I went to check the context. I read the entire chapter and am still having a hard time understanding what it means...

I even looked up the definition of "guidepost" and googled it too!
There are tons of ministries with that name and such... but what does it mean to BE a guidepost??
